Earlier this year, Walt Minnick announced the formation of Republicans for Minnick, a group organizing cross-party support for the Idaho congressional candidate.
“Walt is a Democrat, but he is an Idahoan first,” states the website www.RepublicansForMinnick.com. “He shares our conservative values of fiscal responsibility and limited government. Walt is a former CEO of an Idaho company, a military veteran and a man with an impeccable reputation as a bipartisan problem solver. We know Walt Minnick will do what is right for Idaho. These are serious times, and they call for serious leadership.”
Today the group officially added new names to the Republicans for Minnick steering committee, bringing the total to over 100. The list now includes former Idaho secretary of commerce Jim Hawkins, retired businessman Harvey Hoff and executive Peter O’Neill.
“I am pleased to have such strong support from across the political spectrum,” Minnick said today. “With one week to go before Election Day, it’s clear that Republicans, Democrats and independents want a representative who can work effectively to fix the broken system in Washington.”
The Minnick for Congress campaign also announced that volunteers, working over the past three months, have identified over 5,000 staunch Republicans who plan to cross party lines and support Walt Minnick. In fact, many of them have already done just that, joining this year’s record-setting number of early voters in Idaho.
“From the beginning of this campaign, Walt Minnick has set aside party labels and talked to every voter about the serious problems facing this nation,” Minnick for Congress spokesman John Foster said. “His insistence on looking for common ground was met with criticism in some circles, but I think the news today shows it’s exactly the right approach. Idahoans of all political persuasions are ready to send a bipartisan problem-solver to Washington, D.C.”
